With the current Covid situation we all face, it’s easy to just say “ah, these are strange times we are living in” and plough on through our daily routine. We get up and start the day browsing through emails either responding about jobs we could do or drop a line to a business owner that shares a mutual connection. Either way, your an entrepreneur, you grab every piece of straw that’s handed to you and you create an opportunity!
Not everyone will know what to look for when they need a website for their business but off the top of my head, here are 5 things to look out for when choosing a web designer or social media manager for your business:
If a ‘design agency’ has 50 followers or less on their page and they have been active for more than 3 months – AVOID (you simply cannot claim to help businesses grow their online presence when your own Facebook page has such a small amount of followers).
When their email address is a Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud address etc rather than for example “martin@mccabegraphics.com” – AVOID
If you need a shop to sell your products online but they don’t have experience in building/managing e-Commerce websites – AVOID
If they tell you to send them the fee you have agreed to for the project via PayPal as ‘Friends & Family’ at any point – AVOID
If it’s REALLY cheap – AVOID (Trust me, you will not only be out the ‘cheap’ fee you’ve agreed with them but you will then have to pay for the services of a real designer when you eventually want the job done right)
There are a lot of factors involved for many people when it comes to bringing your business online but these are just a few ways you can sort the cowboys from the professionals. I always say “If you buy cheap, you buy twice!”
